A lot of folks might think that it’s only consequential to vote in years when congressional, gubernatorial or presidential candidates are on the ballot. But skipping local elections (often held in “odd years”) means giving up your voice in the decisions that affect your daily life right here in Pike county.

For example, this year we have School Board Races. These boards decide whether books get banned, how our schools treat marginalized students and how much of the budget is spent on things like sports and the arts.

In Pennsylvania, these races can also be quite confusing, as candidates can “cross-file” and run under a party designation that isn’t that of their voter registration.

For the Delaware Valley School District race there will be 5 candidates listed on the November ballot, but only ONE of those candidates is a true registered Democrat:  Joe Kuemerle.   The others cross-filed so that  both “Democrat and Republican” labels appear next to their names on the General Election ballot – even though they are not Democrats.

We currently have only one Democrat sitting on the Delaware Valley School Board, and we need another voice of reason to fight back against the insanity.

Another important race is that of Milford Mayor. Milford Boro is a small voting population, but the Mayor is helping to run our County Seat. This position is always influential. Our democratic candidate for this position is Candace Mahala.

Candace grew up in Milford Boro, and has moved back with her husband to raise their daughter in the small town environment that she cherished as a child.
